Social media and other Web-based PR tools have changed how businesses go about publicizing their good news. However, there is an easy formula that will help you get your story covered by local media outlets. You just have to know how to play the PR game. Our friend Jay Ehret at www.themarketingspot.com recently made a short video discussing his formula for PR success with local newspapers, magazines, TV, and radio.  Jay is an expert with small business branding and marketing based in Waco, Texas.

Follow Ehret’s simple PR Formula

  • Be Notable
  • Make it Noteworthy
  • Get Noticed

As a former small town newspaper editor I can confirm all of Jay’s tactics above. Editors and reporters work under a steady stream of deadlines and having local, useful, newsworthy content at your fingertips is always a requirement. Do your homework and make their job as easy as possible. After you establish a regular rapport with your editor or reporter, politely provide them with regular newsworthy articles. If your press releases have genuine value to the marketplace or other business owners, you will find that have carved yourself a healthy slice of local PR pie.
